As I sat on the couch reading a Supreme Court opinion in a very boring case, I was suddenly distracted by a conversation Morgan was having with nobody in particular. She is like me and can talk to a wall if she has to. She was a little distressed about the weather outside. It was a warm day that had become cold as the sun was going down. She said, "now that it is night the ground will get wet. Then vapors will come up from the ground into the air. Vapors-that's water in the air. And the clouds will suck up all the vapors and when they get full the clouds rain." I was so impressed. Go public education!!! Who knew?! I made a comment about how she must really like Science. She looked fairly perplexed and said, "I like Science, and dramatic play, and computers, and writing." I don't know the process of learning to read very well, but she has to be close. She knows all of her alphabet letters and nearly all the sounds now. We had name tags on at church today and a little boy next to her had a tag that said Mark. She said, hey your name starts with the same letter as mine. She can spell all the words she sees around her so I've been trying to teach her what those crazy letters mean. So, she knows Mom is spelled m-o-m. We sounded it all out. I can't wait for her to read. Her math skills are so awesome too. She saw some plastic chairs that had 6 rails each on the backs. She counted each and said, "both chairs together have 12 rails." Crazy crazy.

A New Milestone
Today we went out together as a family to find a replacement for our trusty camera that we have had since Morgan was born. It's amazing how cheap and small they are now. We stuck with Cannon because they make nice equipment. There was a very good reason for the sudden need to take pictures on a Sunday morning. Lorelai has just met an important milestone in growing up from baby to toddler. Since Friday afternoon she has been sleeping in a toddler bed. I pulled out all the pieces to Morgan's old Cinderella toddler bed and put it together. The crib sat in her room "just in case" but we never had to revert back. Lorelai has transitioned so well to the toddler bed without any fight or fuss. Morgan also enjoys being able to play in bed with her baby sister. Today she asked if she could put Lorelai down for a nap and "read" her a story and tucked her in. Here are some photos of Lorelai and her bed, and then just a couple of us playing around with our new high tech toy.

Birthday's

Thanks to everyone that helped us celebrate our birthdays. Cards, phone calls, and emails were all really appreciated. We just finished up Morgan's birthday party and it went much better than I expected. She is such an amazing little girl. I stand back and am amazed at the little person she is becoming. A major hit present wise was a toy puppy that came with it's own carrying case and outfits. It has not left her side all evening. We had a friend who is very talented at making cakes make Morgan a castle cake that was just beautiful. Clare just finished puppy class. She can now do sit, down, off, stay, watch me, leave it, take it, give it, drop it, roll over, take a bow, crawl, and walk nicely on a leash without pulling. She isn't perfect or anything, but if you have the right treat she knows the commands. After our family vacation coming up in August we'll move on to intermediate classes. The summer is going nicely here. Eddie is really enjoying his new position in the unit. We still have no word on orders, but in August we can request a base of preference. I expect to be gone by next May. Morgan is enjoying playing with her friends and going to play dates and movies. She has seen Kung Fu Panda and Wall-E this summer. She did so well and it's been so much fun for us to take her out on those outings and spend time with her. Lorelai is growing up faster every day. She wants to be just like Morgan in every way. She is working on communicating with us and she is just smart enough to get into trouble. Like, if she can't reach the treat on the counter, she goes and pushes the step stool over to the counter and climbs up. We can't take our eyes off of her. I'm nearing the end of my summer semester. Only 4 weeks left and then I will have a small break before starting up my final semester. I passed my American Government CLEP with a 62 out of 80 and that sealed the deal. I haven't worked out all the details yet about how to get my tickets and cap and gown, but that is a minor detail. Hope everyone else has a wonderful summer too!
